The Christian Mama’s Guide To Having A Baby

The Christian Mama’s Guide To Having A Baby
The Christian Mama’s Guide To Having A Baby
by: Erin MacPherson
As a Mom of four I have definitely spent a lot of time pregnant and reading through pregnancy books as if they were my daily instructions on how to simply survive pregnancy. First time Moms search frantically for the perfect book spending hundreds of dollars and often times left with a heaping pile of unasnwered questions and tattered pages.
The Christian Mama’s Guide to Having A Baby by Erin MacPherson was a breath of fresh air. The book is filled with real life advice by an experienced real life Mom! The author, Erin, states in her forward that this book lacks medical jargon, and she holds true to that. When you are reading through the pages you get the feeling that you are at your Sunday fellowship potluck chatting around a table with your friends and pregnancy pro Erin MacPherson.

Each chapter is filled with tips, secrets and advice you will need in order to survive your pregnancy. Topics covered range from diet and exercise while pregnant, your body during the different weeks and trimesters, preparing for nursery and baby and even what to expect during your OB visits and the delivery room, all from a friendly view.

One of my favorite things about this book was the personal connection. The mounds of pregnancy books I have read in the past are all very technical and medically fact based, reading almost like a pre-med text book. While all of that medical information is great, it really would have been nice to have some advice from an unbiased woman that has experience in the pregnancy department.
I highly recommend for all expectant Moms, first timers or not this book gives you a whole new perspective on pregnancy and reading materials. This would also make an amazing congratulatory gift for friends and family that have just shared the amazing news!

  42. everyone needs faith

  43. I’m all through having babies but sounds like a good book

  44. Sounds like a book that provides pregnancy support in a more familial way than the books that are very instructional but lack the warmth that this book provides. Probably like getting advice from your best friend instead of the gynocologist. It’s good to have books that kind be more supportive than directional.

  65. Sounds like a wonderful book! I would have loved to read it during my pregnancies. I will refer it on to friends, thank you!

  66. When I was preganant I read too many books and then forgot what I needed to know during delivery.

  67. Sounds interesting! Will keep in mind for the future!

  68. Sounds like a good read for any one expecting. Add it to the pile of reading material am I right. What makes it different other that it gives a little more personal feel? Since it has christian in the title, does it have strong religious tones to the book? I’m not religious and not a lot of my friends are either.

  69. Sounds like a great idea for a baby shower gift! Unbiased advice is something that is definitely missing from many other pregnancy books.

  91. Sounds like a great book, wish I would have read it while pregnant.

  92. I was curious of the same, there are small undertones of religion but in no way is religion shoved down your throat or on EVERY page. I was very happy to see that the book was not forcing views on readers. It would be like pregnancy advice and pregnancy discussions with Michelle Duggar, there would be hints of religion but it is solely the advice and tips from an experienced Mom, who happens to be Christian.

  93. Awesome, great ideas!

  94. thank you for sharing this guide, this would be perfect for my friend!

  95. I’m sure young mothers-to-be would benefit by such a wonderful book. You really did a grand Post with such a simplistic review for young moms too!

  96. This sounds like a good book for a Christian mom who is expecting.
    upstatemissy@gmail.com

  97. I am beyond my baby having years, but now we’re “collecting” grandchildren. I think this book would be a fabulous read for any mother to be. We’re all hungry for some real meat that we can sink our teeth into when we’re expecting. It’s good to know that someone has presented the info in layman’s terms.

  98. What about mamas who aren’t Christian? Something similar without the religion would be nice.

  99. Helpful to most expecting mothers!

  100. This is a great idea for shower gift for a new mom. Thank you for sharing!

  101. Looks like a great book.

  102. This would be a great gift for my niece who is expecting wilcarvic

  118. Oops, I can’t figure out how to edit my comment, but I logged in with the wrong account… this is John-Paul Thomas. Still a great review.

  119. This book sounds awesome. I have had 3 children and the other books scared me. I know they were trying to prepare you for the worst, but that’s really the last thing a pregnant momma needs

  120. Interesting. But not sure what Christian vs not Christian has to do with having a baby.

  121. I appreciate that it is from a Christian perspective.

  122. this looks like a good book

  123. This comment has been removed by the author.

  124. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I tried to read what I could about what to expect during pregnancy, delivery, and baby care. There was sooo much information and much of it was dry.
Also, there was so much stuff available in the stores, we were overwhelmed and didn’t know what we would need.
We really appreciated the practical advice we got from experienced moms. The books I enjoyed the most were written in everyday language with a dose of encouragement and humor.

  133. Love great pregnancy books! I devoured them during my first pregnancy

  134. This sounds like a good book, I wish I would have had it when I was expecting, but I will definitely remember to tell friends who may need it in the future

  135. You also speak about pregnancy books. In my day all they really had was “Dr. Spock, and we all know how that one turned out! hahahaha I never went by the book really. I really didn’t have a choice, it was my gram, and my mother’s rules with my first child. After that it became old business! hehehe

  136. Even not being a first time mom, I think this would be great! Especially the diet/exercise tips. I was NOT good at that before. :/

  137. Oh darn, I didn’t get the link to the comment right before this one, so I’ll put this link = hope that’s okay!

  163. I have a friend who would benefit from this book greatly. Her biggest complaint is that she reads all these “technical” advice books and she’s depressed by them. Ahhh First pregnancies are always the toughest, lol. I think your nest book should be.. “So, Your friend is having her first baby. What to do when she starts crying at the mall.” Because as much as I would love to look at her and say the obvious “it’s those dastardly hormones, You’ll be alright.” I find myself buying her a cookie and giving her a tissue.

  164. Definitely a book I would have read when i was preggo!!

  264. Sounds like a wonderful book…honestly, this time around I haven’t been reading the pregnancy books…like you said, so technical…if I have questions, I simply google (which may be a bad thing too haha)…this is one I might have to give a try to though:)

  265. There are a million books out there for pregnancy and parenting, but very few use faith to guide us through the journey! Very good idea!

  266. These kind of books are always helpful when having a baby!

  267. Hello, I am here from the summer splash giveaway to leave a review. I agree with you that a book simply written by a Mom, is much more helpful that all the medical books. thank you. Vicki

  269. This would make a great gift!

  270. Perfect book to give as part of baby shower gift baskets I’m making for two friends that are both expecting babies in August. One was even complaining about how all the books she’s bought and checked out seem to impersonal. I will definitely be purchasing this soon.

  271. I would love to give this to my sister who is due in July!

  274. I like a book with a personal feel too, that is still informative, and you’re right, it’s hard to find. Thanks for the share on this book.

  275. Tried and tested advice is always the best

  276. The book sounds amazing I wish I had it 14 year ago

  277. I love that it is from a Christian point of view

  278. It’d definitely be nice to have a book that was more friendly and less technical and cold.

  279. I will definately be looking up the first school years book

  280. I just found out that our daughter is pregnant with our second grandchild. I will tell her about this book.
