Die Hard Baseball

So, Apparently we have hit the age where baseball becomes more than a game! Practice and games are twice a week now, kids have started pitching, weather plays no factor in the schedule and the boys are a little more fierce. Last night a thunderstorm with high winds blew through Detroit Lakes and the wind howled on today. With a couple moments of bright sunshine the wind kept it very chilly with a high of 56 today, yep, you heard me right. May 31st and our high was 56.
Regardless, Butch’s first practice and game of the season was tonight. Hell, high water nor wind was stopping the Detroit Lakes opener. Butch wore long pants, shirt and hoodie, we loaded up in the van and headed out. I knew I would meet the coach, get the necessary paperwork, update any info and chit chat with the other parents for a bit but once practice started I would eventually make my way back to the comfort and warmth of my van and watch from there, while reading and texting of course, you know me, always multi-tasking. While the boys practiced I read my book, which I am totally behind on, and answered texts. Butch was doing pretty good even though I knew the poor guy was freezing his ASS off, literally folks, it was cold! It would thunder and sprinkle occasionally but nothing that would stop these baseball players, these “manly men”, these two teams of 9 and 10 year olds hahaha. The game began at 7pm. I kept reading but glanced up quite often. The other team was at bat first and had no runs. I think the furthest they got was third. When it was the Royals team at bat I watched patiently for Butch to step up. I noticed right away that the poor kid was so cold he could barely stand..and that his bat was way to heavy for him. Pitcher throws and strike one, pitcher throws again and BAM..my Butch Paul gets beamed right in the head! He shakes it off and the coach told him to head for first where he met up with him, asked if he was ok and checked on him. Butch was just fine, cold but fine. A couple batters later and Butch crossed home plate scoring the teams first run of the game and season, Yeah Butch, way to use your head. Note to self, call Kelsey and schedule a chiropractor appointment for Butch, first thing Thursday morning! If he is in too rough of shape, I’ll call Sara and see if we can stop by for a quick tune up. Butch’s second time at bat he struck out, but frankly I think he may have done it on purpose, I think he just wanted this whole night over with as fast as possible! Once the game was finally over, I cranked up the heat and heated seats and drove me snowman home to defrost. Sherman put on some water for hot chocolate while Butch jumped in a warm shower and threw a blanket in the dryer to cuddle up with when finished. We went through the typical second guessing of oneself and whether they really wanted to partake in a sport and of course in the end we will be back at the field Thursday evening for game two, and of course many more in the future this summer! I am very proud of Butch for sticking with it and doing so well! I am very pleased to see he is growing up! Two years ago, he would have set the bat down and left the field in tears never to come back. My little boy is growing up and I couldn’t be happier! I was able to get some pictures of tonights practice and game, please notice the nasty weather that these Tough guys suffered through!
On a side note, I have received several emails and tweets about comments being all wacky. I am not sure what the deal is, my settings are accurate and I have heard from other bloggers that they are struggling with this as well. I am not sure when it will be fixed and why Blogger is struggling with this but feel free to email, tweet or even facebook me! I have several buttons and links throughout the site to make this as easy as possible! Thanks for stopping by today and enjoy the pictures!
