My Sick Little Princess

Happy Monday everyone! It has been a roller coaster weekend! Friday was a quiet night at home. Chris had fallen asleep pretty quickly so it was me, Broden, the dogs and Desperate Housewives on Netflix. Broden’s swing had died and I was worried it was going to be a difficult time getting him to sleep but he went with the flow and had a great night without the swing.
Saturday was rainy and gloomy. I sure am missing the sunshine! Marissa and Leslie’s school carnival was Saturday and the kids were excited! Chris decided he and the younger two boys would stay home and do some chores. As soon as we walked in we ran into my teenage sister so I knew my Mom was somewhere in the building. The kids decided the first thing they wanted to do was the cake walk. We headed over to the lunch room area and sure enough my Mom was sitting right next to the cake walk watching my sister and her boy trying to win a cake. I sat down and divided the kids tickets and told them to have fun. Yes, this was the first year I decided they could run around and do as they please as long as they were together and stayed out of trouble. I know, I know. Miranda let go? I didn’t want to, I wanted it to be a fun family thing but Marissa had asked me earlier in the day of she could be by herself this time and hang out with her friends instead. I thought about it all morning and finally told her that she could, but she would have to be with her brother the entire time. I was expecting an argument and a “but Mouuuuuummmm” but I didn’t get it, instead she perked right up, her eyes lit up and she said “OK”. Once I realized both my sisters and my Mom was in the building plus a ton of my friends I relaxed and it was easier to let he have fun. The two of them ran around for a little bit and then they joined us and walked with us for a bit. They had a lot of fun. They have grown up so much in one year! The only down side was near the end. Marissa went to the the face painting booth and she chose the tiger design. when she was finished she came back to the table I was sitting at and was near tears, she was SO upset! It looked like crap..and thats putting it very nicely. Whoever did it did a horrible job and poor Marissa was pissed! She then promptly walked to the bathroom where she spent almost 30 minutes trying to scrub it off her face. She did the best she could and we headed to Wal-mart to pick up a few items for dinner. Once we were home Marissa fell apart. She was tired, she was not feeling very good and she was still very angry about her face paint. She ended up crying and off to the shower she went. I felt so bad for her. While we were eating I realized Marissa must be feeling pretty icky, we were eating her favorite food, spaghetti, and she had barely touched it. I brushed it off and thought of how exhausted I get when I am upset and it gets worse if I cry. Feeling that way really drains your energy. Saturday night Chris and I played a hand of cards, watched some tv and then when he went to bed I was reading and watching Desperate Housewives and around 2:30 am Marissa came down and she looked like death! Poor thing, she really was sick! She had a fever over 102, she was coughing, puking, shaking and I was darting around getting things ready for her. Puke bucket check, ibuprofen check, wet rag check, glass of cold water check. I took her temp every 30 minutes and after nearly 2 hours had finally got it down to 99.8, I told her to lay down on the floor and try get some sleep. Around 5:30 am Chris came down and I gave him an update about everything. I kissed him and headed up to bed…finally!
My Sunday started around 1pm and I didn’t really do anything. I took care of  Marissa most of the day and laid around watching movies and reading. I did head out to the store and pick up some birthday cards, signed them and got them ready for Chris to drop off at the post office otherwise that was it! It was a boring day but Marissa needed me so it was best to stay close to home.
Which brings me to here, today. I kept Marissa home from school today and she seems to be doing better but we will see how her night goes. At this point she will be going to school tomorrow but if something happens tonight then who knows. I am hoping to finish my book tonight and I should have a review posted on Wednesday, so stay tuned for that. I will probably post a recipe this evening as well. But for now, until next time, enjoy the pictures!
